Egervin Vineyard Co. Ltd. takes enormous pride in a tradition of wine making that spans several decades. Founded in 1949, the Company has been reorganized and improved over the years. It has now been operating since June 1993 under a new and revitalized leadership as a private firm with 100% Hungarian ownership. During this period, the company has achieved a leading position in the developing Hungarian wine industry, and as an exporter has become one of the most significant players in Hungarian wine-making.
This historical wine region of Eger is of major importance to the Hungarian wine industry, containing a variety of geographical areas where viniculture has been famous for several hundred years.
The names of the wine region originate from the name of the cities, towns, villages or even smaller geographical areas and individual vineyards.
The Eger Wine Region is entirely unique in it's formation, particularly with the cellar system which has been formed over many centuries.
From these historical cellar labyrinths a 130 km long cellar system has been constructed.
Originally it was carved from the volcanic tuff for defensive purposes. During the rule of the Turkish invaders, the people within the fortress of Eger have brought food across this underground cellar system to keep them alive.
